WHOM SHOULD ONE TRUST?
by Paramhans Swami Maheshwarananda (Swamiji)
Whom Should One Trust? Above all, one's self.
A great many people have lost their self-confidence. Self-confidence can be regained by recognizing the treasures that are within us. Trust yourself and your capabilities. Unfortunately we are unaware of the many, great capabilities we have.
Have confidence in your path and in your task. Be so totally convinced of it that no one can deter you from it. There will always be problems, difficulties and unpleasant circumstances. As long as we live, we will be disappointed time and time again. Even though we humans are supposedly the highest-born of creatures, we are very vulnerable because we permit external factors and others to disappoint us. What is most essential though is that we do not disappoint ourselves.
On the path to fulfillment there must be faith. We must be convinced of what we are undertaking so that we may say with confidence, "I can do it" rather than
"well, I'll try". To 'try' is to sabotage one's own effort right from the start.
Whenever fate offers you an opportunity accept it with courage. Perhaps you will fail but that's not what matters. What is important is your strength. We should tread our path in life with this sort of certainty.
